Quarantine helps us to appreciate adding natural humidifiers inside our rooms. A lot of people unexpectedly became plantitos and plantitas. People can’t resist the charm of owning beautiful plants. However, some indoor plants wither because we do not know how to take care of them. So here is a list of the basics:
- Soil is an important factor, so make sure that you keep it moist. Not too dry and not too wet. You can touch the
soil and it will tell you how many times you need to water it. Just make sure that there are enough holes at the bottom of the pot for its drainage. - As much as it needs water, indoor plants also need sunlight to keep them alive. They must be put in the brightest spot in the room. They should be exposed to the sun directly at least six hours a day because they need a lot of sunlight as much as possible. You probably would want to put them in the sunniest window that you have.
- Prune the plants only if necessary. If you have no reason to prune plants, don’t do it. But if you notice that your plant is getting tall and spindly, then we recommend you prune them. Make sure that you know the structure and its shape and then determine your tools.

It is important that you use the right tools in pruning them. Getting rid of old-growth on your plants will help your plants grow again. This is kind of like how trimming the dead ends of your hair will help your hair grow again. There will be times when you’ll see some of the tips or leaves of your plant dying, so a simple plant haircut will do!
And lastly, never neglect it. A 2014 study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology found that employees were 15% more productive when they worked with houseplants. Other research has shown that plants reduce stress and improve creativity. So, imagine working in the comfort of your home, saving energy from travels, being safe from Covid, enjoying time with your family, and being able to take care of your little happiness in a pot. Are they not all good reasons not to start working from home?
