Working from home gives the convenience of avoiding traffic and lets you decide which time suits you best. Many are talking about it because it sells. Though, very few are saying the downside it bears.
I, for one, is an example. I was very excited when I first started my work from the home journey and did not give much attention to the challenges I could face. Here are some of the struggles I have encountered so far.
Distractions. Distractions. Distractions.
Yes. A lot of distractions. It is easy to be tempted by multiple things while working because no one is looking. You are your boss so you can do whatever you want.
Thus, it is essential to stay focused and as much as possible, keep yourself away from those diversions. Finish your task at hand first so you can enjoy it afterward without guilt.
Lacking a Routine and Work-Life Balance
According to research by JDP, employees working remotely during the coronavirus pandemic grapple with distractions, the blurred line between work/home and they also have trouble maintaining a routine.
It is sometimes hard for most of us to see where our work ends and our free time begins. For example, when people always see us at home, they could think we are always available to do some chores and engage in anything unrelated to work. But it is very important to set boundaries. It is important to inform people in your household when you can or can’t engage with them.
Competition
If you want to land a job you have to be skilled. Working from home is a talent competition. It would force you to go outside of your comfort zone and acquire skills unfamiliar to you. It is very intimidating.
Learning new skills is a must in this industry.
“The future rewards those who press on. I don’t have time to feel sorry for myself. I don’t have time to complain. I’m going to press on. “
