“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” – Aristotle
If you have a choice, what life-changing habit would you like to start? Many say that the best way to change one’s life is to create routines and build them into habits. Reward yourself each day that you accomplish that routine as motivation, do it again and again until it is already an essential part of your everyday life.
How do one start building a habit:
Here are some habits that could help you live a happier, better life:
Become aware of how you talk to yourself, the thoughts that goes on your mind. Slowly shift the negative to positive and see how it changes not just your outlook on things, but how you actually feel about them. Starting with this habit will help you prepare for the next ones by constantly giving yourself the much needed push to move forward.
Exercise is life changing in such a way as it gives one the self-confidence one needs to feel good about themselves. This goes well with the positive mindset that they already have. Keeping your body active is a good way to remove the stress and gives you a better mental state. It also helps in boosting creativity and coming up with great ideas.
By doing one task at a time gives you more focus and makes you more efficient in getting that task done. This could also lessen or take out the stress totally which will result with you feeling good the whole day.
Trying to achieve many goals at the same time will eat up most of your focus and energy. List down your goals and try to see which ones can have the same sub-goals, choose one and focus on working on that and as soon as it’s done, move on to the next sub-goal. This will help you achieve the main goal so you can move on to the next one. Check which goals are more of a habit that you would need to work on continuously and as soon as it becomes a habit, you can now move on to the following goal.
Figure out which are the significant things in your life, which ones are important and you give high regards to. Narrowing your list to the essential ones will help you figure out which are the ones that you don’t need. Take them out of your life so you can focus on living the life that you want.
Begin cultivating the habit of kindness and it will give you a sincere change in your life. You begin to regard yourself and the people around you better and notice how they will do the same to you. Start doing one kind act each day, become more compassionate with your interactions with others and motivate yourself to start doing bigger acts of kindness, like volunteering to groups that help those who need it.
Have set of routines to start and end your day. This will help you begin your day right and finish your day all set for the next one. It will help you keep track of what’s important and persist on working on it to get it done each day.
It will never be too late, no matter how old you are, to start living a better life. It all starts with committing to it and to the reasons on why you would do it. May it be for your own personal good or it may extend to your loved ones, what’s important is you start now.
