As a remote employee, we are lucky enough to enjoy the perks that most office workers don’t like having to commute or not having the need to shower to go to work. Funny right? But it’s true! We get to spend more time with our family, do groceries at 10 am because why not? All these privileges of working from home are almost like a dream.
Why is remote work so prevalent in this day and age?
It saves a lot of money, not only for the employee but also for the company. Imagine not paying for transportation, food, and other additional expenses that incur in traditional workplaces. The competitive net pay. Flexible time and more productivity. You get to have more time with your family. Your time spent commuting is already time spent with your family.
Working from home has been a trend to help businesses grow by telecommunicating or distance working. Remote work is here to stay and is quickly changing how business is done.
But working from home is not for everyone. So how can you balance your work with your daily life? How can you not be tempted to watch television while you’re working?
GET A QUIET WORKSPACE.
Make sure that you have your own working space and not a commonly used room in your house. You have to avoid any distractions. You don’t want your boss or your client to hear noise while you’re talking to him. That would leave the wrong impression.
SET YOUR BOUNDARIES.
Communicate with everyone living with you. Tell them your needs and restraints to get your work done. For example, no knocking on the door for a specific time or a do not disturb sign on the door would be a lot of help.

STRUCTURED WORKDAY.
Make a to-do list of the things you have to accomplish within the day. Set a deadline for every task. Self-discipline is essential for working from home, so you have to ensure that your productivity will not be affected by anything.
WAKE-UP AHEAD OF TIME.
It will be more productive if you take the time you need before the workday starts to maximize success later in the day. Shower, eat your breakfast, or exercise. Ensure your body is ready for your tasks; not only will it increase your productivity, but you’ll feel good throughout the day.
TAKE BREAKS.
Of course, we can’t just work and work throughout the day. Stretch those legs and arms, eat with your family. Do self-care for motivation. Never forget to take care of yourself while you’re taking care of the business.
MAXIMIZE YOUR TOOLS.
Things like google calendars and other CRM’s would enable you to make your work from home tasks easy. Make sure that you use them and maximize their features to maximize your productivity as well.
MARK THE END OF THE DAY.
Once you can finish your tasks according to the structure and timetable that you’ve set for yourself, it’s time for you to call the day. Transition out gracefully, double-check if all the things that need to be done have been completed, send your end of day report, and Voila, you are good to go.
